Dean Markley Blue Steel medium-gauge are interesting to play on if you have a short-scale (e.g., Fender Jaguar/Mustang). You'll either build up callouses very quickly, or lose your fingertips in the process :shrug-outta-hecks:
For E-standard stuff on a 25.5" or 24.75" scale setup, I like the Ernie Ball Skinny Top/Heavy Bottom 10-52 set for the extra tension on the chugga-chugga strings. It also helps keep floating tremolo systems in line a bit.
For 24.75"-scale in C# standard, my go-to these days is the Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky 12-56 set. Also works for C-standard on a 25.5" scale. (I used to use Everly X-Rockers, but they didn't hold up nearly as well as the Balls or even DR DDTs. I switched away from the DRs because the core tension is weird and the strings always felt a little bit brittle to me if I used them on a Floyd Rose.)
In either case (Edit: on un-coated strings), a GHS Fast Fret mineral oil applicator will keep the strings from corroding if you reapply every few times that you play, unless you have really acidic sweat. Then all bets are off.
For acoustic, eh... Mine's pretty much just a wall hanger. D'Addario bronze 12-52s work fine for me (with the aforementioned Fast Fret to keep them from gunking up), but I've had decent results with Everly Sessions acoustic strings, too. Can't speak for coated strings.
