one of my all-time favorite comfort movies that I'll always watch if it's on, even though it's a shitty adaptation of the source material

Isn't this like making a sequel to the Ben Affleck Daredevil?

Have we reached a point where we are now making nostalgiabait sequels to unsuccessful shitty movies too

Not even. The Constantine movie gets a bad rap honestly. Keanu Reeves is certainly miscast but honestly there's a lot to like about that movie and it's light years better than the daredevil film.

It seems to me we reached that point ~10 years ago. A related post about an obscure, unsuccessful shitty movie plus sequel that's being rebooted as a trilogy - https://hexbear.net/post/221451.

And so much Hollywood stuff (reboots etc) have exactly the same fundamental problems: bad plot, poor dialog, and inadequate casting. Movies and tv series are kneecapped before they even start. It's like trying to make a tasty meal with crap ingredients.
