To be fair, most of that area is already prone to flooding, so there are existing "Internal Drainage Boards" in those areas that deal with the problem. It could probably be managed relatively well if they plan for it properly, but that's a big "if".

It is interesting though, looking at how those regions were historically very sparsely populated, for the same reason
