has anyone looked at this series? it caught my eye, because the title card on my streaming player is like a sort of stylized City of London skyline over this ENORMOUS red hammer and sickle. it seems to be on at least one big streaming aggregator in every sector of the anglosphere (hulu in the states, disney+ in UK/ireland, wherever A+E treats are dumped).

so i was like, "What in the Christ is this?" i guess it's Swede produced, filmed in Ireland, but mostly english language and purports to be an "international spy thriller" about sOmEbOdY interfering in a UK election, with some MI5 and Dane intelligence service pairing up to unravel the mystery.

what i can't seem to get a straight answer on is what the fuck this has to do with cOmMuNiSm by watching the trailer or reading the premise description. i'm also a big Stephen Dillane fan, so i'm gonna try to watch it, though I expect it to be absolute :LIB: slop. i'll report back when i get a clearer picture of the terrain.

:rat-salute:

i'm about 3 eps in and the answer eludes me, thank god.

there is a sneaky Russian element at play, but it seems like some kind of outsourced organized crime cutout that might be foiling secret plans. my working thesis is that there is a real conspiracy of Comintern types to disable the UK government (using a 2nd Scottish independence referendum as a delivery vehicle alongside some assassination plots and smear campaigns), and that the people behind this are being portrayed as The Baddies. but that's a stretch. it's a very typical "who is playing who against who and why" type of mystery with lots of hacking, deep fake fuckery, and duplicitous characters so it's about as clear as a muddy river what's driving this thing. or even if people who are being assholes aren't just acting like that to confuse their unknown enemies. Dillane started as an obvious fascist asshole, but has since evolved into someone truly inscrutable, so points for that. like he's definitely an asshole, but he might be my kind of asshole? or he may turn out to be the the most evil prick on the show.

obviously, i'm rooting for the communist conspiracy and a Scottish republic to be liberated from London, but i'm pretty sure the "heroes" will figure out whatever is going on and flip a switch at the 11th hour to save capitalism or some shit.
