In the movie, the computer is programmed explicitly by humans, it is not like today's neural nets. And it doesn't take over, it is given instructions to keep the purpose of the mission secret, and is forced by circumstance to kill its crew to ensure this.

By how we're not going to make the 1.5 degree global warming target and how AI can't even draw fingers. I'm not too sure humanity wont kill everyone first.

AI can draw fingers, Midjourney fixed that in their model over a year ago now.

So I'd say we have a real race on our hands!

yeah, i think a highlander 2 type future is where we're headed, not the comfy sterile advanced space age of the odyssey

I'm going out on a limb and say the way that "AI" kills us all is the U.S government decides to modernize its nuclear arsenal by putting that shitty AI chatbot in its software and some hacker accidentally convinces the bot to bypass all its security measures and nuke the world.

I remember Samsung used this image as defence in their court case against Apple. Apple were claiming that they invented the very idea of tablet computer.

Samsung just opened up an archive of sci-fi media and pointed at it.
