It's usually done as a strategy to try to fit in, to be "one of the good ones," or sometimes just self loathing given a signal boost by chuds in the same community.

It's saddening how many people, especially trans people, call themselves d-word-popularized-by-nazis, for example. Or marginalized ethnic group members that use the very slurs that are used to justify putting people like them into camps.

It's fucked up, but I am often at a loss for how to reach those people, or if such a thing is even possible. :doomer:

EDIT: It seems this is important enough to :freeze-gamer: that alt accounts must be mustered to rage at me about it. :jokah-messy:

I technically already do that; I don't engage when I see it, even if I sort of wished I had a reliable way to do so.

Still, if I didn't post about it, I wouldn't have lured in a nazbol clown to make a fresh alt just to projectile vomit all over this thread. Free entertainment. :frothingfash:

One of the problems with engaging this is that it's usually in a space where when you do engage all the righties will group together and provide reinforcement to the person self-using it. That group reinforcement is hard to break and it feels like "community" to the recipient which in this atomised individualistic culture is something that people long for.

Usually however these groups break up when something horrible happens in them. Those breaking points tend to force the people involved to then find new ways to spend the parts of their days that were previously dedicated to those spaces and moving to a space where that behaviour is not common usually makes them find new ways to speak.
