    This is definitely relevant but it seems more like calling out fanboys of a subset of economic theory - the thing I remember reading was when economists made like an official announcement or something that boils down to "I'm not mad, I'm not mad, I'M NOT MAD, when reality contradicts my words reality is wrong!"

            If inflation is calculated by the buying power of a unit of currency against a set of defined basic items (certain foodstuffs, etc.), then wouldn't food shortages in a free market cause massive inflation, irrespective of government backed monetary expansion?
