One could speculate that if not for Johnson's compromises in the wake of the Civil War, we might not have had the same level of resurgence of Confederate sympathizers in the 20th century. Without southern white supremacist populism, Prescott Bush probably wouldn't have had a political career, and therefore neither would George H.W. or George W. (The same probably foes for Reagan.) Jeb! unfortunately exists across all timelines and quantum realms of possibility.

Hm... maybe. But this is America we're talking about... even with a 'complete' Reconstruction under Lincoln, that Southern populism would still exist.
