Instagram is the only public facing social media I still have, I basically post once every couple months so my grandma knows I’m alive

This is literally the fediverse, Hexbear is just a lemmy.ml that takes the open source software and disguises that and doesn't federate. Presumably because Lemmygrad.ml doesn't have enough vegan mods or something. Or the mods here wanted custom rules like this is Discord.
You guys would be able to have two communist reddit clones in the same "whole fediverse" feed otherwise.
You'll have Mastodons along with the Instagram fediverse addition whenever they build it, it makes everything one big website. It's like a big daisy chain and anyone can unlink from parts they don't like. Doubt any IG user knows how much they'd like it and how intuitive it is, I'm guessing programmers at Meta are like "something that's actually good!!!"
Or just take the software and run like you guys lol. Maybe Instagram will be more positive to the fediverse than Hexbear! I bet!
