    Consultants are professional scapegoats. You can throw money at them when you don’t know what to do to pretend like you are doing something. Then you can pay them for years to implement their shitty solutions, then after 2-3 years quietly let the project die when nobody could remember what all the fuss was about anyway, at which point you have learned enough to do something useful or if not just bring in another batch of consultants

        I had an acquaintance who worked for McKinsey and got out of on moral reasons who told me their entire job was to be the scapegoat for things the company wanted to do anyways to give it an air of rationality and economic constraints instead of just, you know, whim of whatever failchild is in charge
