Conservatives have successfully scared off all the corporations from doing rainbow capitalism. And while rainbow capitalism was predatory and annoying, its absence is terrifying in its own way, signalling a return to the pre-2010s stage of the fight for queer rights.

I don like it.

I think capitalism is seeing that it's actually boater kulaks that have the disposable income and not lanyard PMC so they retracted on the rainbow capitalism to not scare away their paypigs.

This is a good time to tell everyone you know that capitalists are not your friends, they always lag behind and take credit for progress won by radicals and continually chip away all the while.

Hmmm, idk. I guess I haven't been paying attention lately but I've noticed some corpo pride stuff. My job is having a little thing today for pride which I'll be watching, just to see what they're saying.

there was like one or two pride shirts out at walmart when I went recently even. (not a big fan but I needed a gag gift that only they carried). Not sure if that's more or less than normal. Kinda have trouble caring though. What makes it pride month is like events and community and friends more than seeing some disposable treats painted in rainbow. I was never that into it though, I go to pride, and try to go to any anti-capitalist pride events, but I don't fit in with the crowd that goes clubbing and partying for pride so its more just an excuse to dress a little different or dye my hair or something and spend some time outside

In my experience Walmart never did too much for pride. I generally agree, I’ve always rolled my eyes at rainbow capitalism, but I do think it’s possible that this is a bit of a canary in the mine for growing anti-lgbt sentiment. It’s definitely a little disconcerting to see so many loud bigots shouting away lgbt visibility this year

People are somehow blaming queer people who criticized (like me for example) the shallow and conditional support that rainbow capitalism did for the lack of rainbow themed treats, like lord in heaven this was exactly what we where critical about.

You're getting backlash because it's tone deaf. Leftist Queers know corporations fucking suck. The last thing they want is an "I told you so".

For example: Leftists know the cops suck. When cops actively fuck someone over, you don't tell that person "This is why we hate cops." They already know cops suck!

It's also tone-deaf (can't you hear the dog whistles) to ignore that this is exactly what was going to happen, so the organizational strategy always needed to be preparing for this eventuality.

Which fortunately, most activist queer communities in the Midwest seem to be prepared for.

I am a queer person, but people where victim blaming queer people who where criticizing pink capitalism, because they felt protected by it lol.

It’s like how even though cicadas and other buzzing insects get sickening to listen to 24/7, a moment when they’re all silent makes you aware that there’s probably a localized ecological disaster around your home

It's in a weird place here. Some people and orgs seem to be going harder than ever, but there is also a louder reaction. I honestly have no idea where things are going.

And yet so much of the big pride events still feel corporatized and soulless! One in a town near me, their 40 PAGE F--ing BROCHUER had a page w/ 'The Gay Agenda' and it literally included brunch, cocktails, and vote.
