China's skyrocketing renewable energy sector has lead to them reaching the goal of less than 50% of power capacity being fossil fuels two years ahead of schedule. Solar power has increased by 33% and wind has increased by 12% in the last year.
Important caveat: this refers to peak generation, which is not often achieved in practice with weather dependent power sources like solar and wind. Actual power consumption was at 28.8% for renewables in 2020, with the current five year plan aiming for 33% by 2025. For comparison, the US is currently at 20%.

I don't think you'll find much out there, unfortunately. Xinhua (edit: if I'm being thorough, Xinhua through the Chinese National Buearau of Statistics) seems to be the main source for any stories I can find. Stats like this will almost always come from the national government in any country, so if people you know are automatically distrusting of anything the government says you might just be SOL.
