Not sure which is weirder, that Rockstar would put effort into making an official goofy zombie mod or remembering that they used to do singleplayer expansions :thinking-about-it:

It's peak 2010's zeitgeist either way.

Since I don't trust my rig to be able to handle upscaling in Xenia, I'm stuck with the native resolution and oof, the 7th gen might have been one of the nastiest looking console generations out there outside of early 3D on the PS1/N64/Saturn.

Something about relatively advanced effects being rendered in horrible blotchy sub 720p resolution and the unsteady <30FPS framerates is... not good.

This was also during the peak "the only two colors are brown and off-brown" of this console generation.

It's a shame because games that took advantage of the hardware (not necessarily saying full power- just using the advancements since the previous generation) produced some gorgeous games like Flower, Super Stardust HD, Journey, the Ratchet and Clank Future series, and LittleBigPlanet (among many more).

Sometimes people complain about the color variety in modern games but I'll take it every time over the PS3/360 gens.

i promise the west is not some desolate hellscape, it's an incredibly colorful and vibrant place. if devs wanted featureless monochromatic landscapes they should have set it in a clean room

:yea: slowly but surely, we are watching as monsters turn every beautiful place on this planet into a mass grave

their deaths cannot come swiftly enough

So does the sequel and it's probably one of the most beautiful settings I've seen in a while.

Isn't that just a 4k version of this game's graphics with fancier lighting and horse balls?

nah, basically RDR 1 takes place in a fictional texas called "New Austin" along with a city called Blackwater and a little bit of Northern Mexico. RDR 2 takes place in a greatly expanded map that includes New Austin and Blackwater, but not Mexico, and adds 3 fictional midwestern states to the North. So the 2nd game takes place mostly to the North of the 1st game, has snowy mountains, lush green plains, etc. Also the characters in general are more colorful, more colorfully dressed, and etc. than the first game. There's a better storyline and a ton of additional features weapons, etc. that weren't in the first game. Rockstar/Take Two are of course giant corporate bastards who worked the people who made it half to death, but it definitely qualifies as a work of art and not just a lazily made cash grab. A lot of sequels are just game 1 with a new number slapped on, but this thing was actually rebuilt from the ground up except for the physics engine.

I like to say that the story of the first game is just "The Odyssey" but as a Western. Because it's about a brutal guy with a checkered past who just wants to get home to his family but keeps getting blown off course by circumstances and because he pissed off The Gods (US Gov.)

Many of the games from the era look just fine or even great on better hardware, it's just that with the PS3 and Xbox 360 they looked like you were trying to run them on your grandma's laptop.

It’s funny too because the DLC was hailed as a masterpiece by some outlets. I loved 2, but I hate playing on console so I haven’t played 1 yet. Have you tried it on RPCS3?

Also just found out RPCS3 stands for “Russian Personal Computer Station 3” lol

If your PC is better than my RX6600 and Ryzen 5 3600, you can try it out yourself with better results.

From the looks of it, RDR on RPCS3 requires a beefy CPU and mine is only B tier in the official RPCS3 tier list. I might give it a shot though, since RPCS3 is far nicer to actually use than Xenia which still feels pretty primitive.

Then at some point DH who is from Ukraine started saying the R stood for Russian which is what we roll with today as Nekotekina who joined in late 2013 and quickly became one of the biggest developers and the architect, is from Russia. So RPCS3 stands for Russian Personal Computer Station 3.

      I hope they're all still buddies :deeper-sadness:

My dino-brain wanted a Valley of Gwangi dlc so bad. Arthur riding a fucking Allosaurus speaks for itself.

I look on the RDR2 subreddit and every proposition of this is shot down by nerds pogging over horse balls.

I actually bought undead nightmare first because they sold it as a standalone game way back then and I loved it so much I bought the actual RDR1 lol
