    so, as a weird consequence of these kinda threads, all I know about romani and travelers is the "anecdotes" of europeans insisting they're not racist, while saying exactly the sort of thing people say after they've insisted their not racist. Are there any books or resources that give a better understanding? It's just kinda culture-shock to me that there are still people living nomadic (is that the right term?) lives on the other side of the Atlantic, when over here... well. I'd like to know more. How do modern cities and states accommodate them? And, more realistically it seems, how do cites and states fail to accommodate them?

      There are Romani people in so-called america too and the burgers that are aware of that or proximate to them are just as racist towards them as euros. Their incarceration rates are similar to other targeted groups you're more familiar with.
