Movie Robert is a good film critic. It's just he's way out of his depth when he starts talking about almost anything else. And like all of us he's way too online for his own good.

I don't know if he still does it but his videos were just his written movie reviews spoken into a camera. He's an old type film critics. He has interesting insights most of the time and watches a lot of movies and has a very wide knowledge base. Like he a can speak authoritatively on chinese cinema and film market.

Not really. He's okay at articulating why he likes a movie, but his tastes are really nostalgia driven, something he kind of wears on his sleeve, but it doesn't really change the fact it affects him to a fault. His criticisms of most new stuff are... well he seems to echo the sentiment of most people moderately into film, so he likes good things and doesn't like bad things. Which is fine, fine enough to be a moderately successful film critic, but nothing remarkable.

He can explain why he likes something and you can come out of the review thinking you won't like it, or why he dislikes something and you can come out of the review thinking you'll like it, and this is the most important skill I want from a movie reviewer.

That said, he's really only good at movie reviews. His attempts to do some sort of long-form movie criticism (like his Really That Good series) were tiresome, and his understanding of politics is... yeesh.
