The amount of hate against TikTok on Reddit is an obvious sign of how out-of-touch the userbase of Reddit has become at this point. I don't even recognize the zeitgeist there anymore and I've been a there since 2005. I'm not even sure it represents the typical Millennial anymore considering how many Millennials are on TikTok at this point.

I've seen some genuinely funny and/or leftist videos on TikTok and all it took was training the algorithm of what content appealed to me for, like, less than an hour. As a software engineer, I tip my hat to the ML engineers at TikTok wherever they may be. Sorry to all the employees who've been forced to become pawns in the dumbest trade war of all time. Sorry also to all the genuinely talented content creators that are constantly patronized by people who have a "real job" during this unprecedented economic fleecing.

Also, at this point a third of Reddit is cropped and reposted videos from TikTok and they don't even fucking realize it.

during the george floyd protests and it was almost 90% liberal aligned teens and early 20s in full support or at least willing to hear people out

This is why. Progressive potential isn't something reddit wants to be behind and a few MegaMods deciding so makes it really easy to push the karma hive against it, then the users internalize it and hate on their own.
