For those who don't know the Blue Ocean Event refers to when arctic sea ice doesn't refreeze in the winter. It will represent a severe tipping point and accelerate the ocean acidification feedback loops and warming of the planet.     Not really; it refers to when the ice goes below 1 million square kilometers (virtually completely disappeared) during the Arctic summer. The term doesn't imply it won't refreeze in the following winter, though a minority of scientists argue it might do that as that would push the Arctic into a new wholly different state.

    You're right on it being a tipping point for the warming of the planet, though.
