Extremely cowardly behavior by the Frankfurt Book Fair, which is "postponing" (ie canceling) an award for well respected Palestinian writer Adania Shibli because her book, Minor Detail, which is about the rape and murder of a Palestinian girl in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, depicts Israel as a "killing machine." Interesting how a book which was "was shortlisted for the 2020 National Book Award for Translated Literature, and longlisted for the International Booker Prize the following year" can suddenly be thought of as "problematic" now that Israel is finally facing some consequences for the acts described in that very book. I'll be picking up Minor Detail and giving it a read once it gets here in solidarity, will probably post my review here if anybody is interested. You can download the book here, and buy the physical or ebook here. (Fitzcarraldo Press, her publisher, is perhaps the best publisher in contemporary literature and certainly my favorite at the moment. Almost everything they publish is gold)
