If we are to do anything about these human tragedies the first task is to not hide behind concepts and narratives that understate the problem.

    Not really a misdirection on part of the federal government at least. The labor dept has always maintained different unemployment metrics. The corporate media will typically only report U-1 or U-2 which is a lot rosier picture but really there are 6 different unemployment rates. So when someone says unemployment rate, your question should be which one?
