LOL! Great link. Cloud Atlas was a very confusing film to watch - I had no idea all these actors were reused. Pretty sure I only noticed Asian Hugo Weaving because he's the worst one, the rest just look like bad makeup/alien faces.

Race-bending is not the worst thing in the world (it's not inherently racist to want to play with race IMO), but the fact that the results are so awkward even when woke/well-meaning filmmakers try it shows it's a bad idea.

The site oversells its case a bit:

their anti-male bias is loud and clear

Like, huh? Most of their main characters are male...?

The cloned 'cute Asian girl' was one of the cringiest parts of the film to me. Definitely screams that Western culture otherizes Asians and doesn't even notice it.

I mean, it's necessary for the "throughout time" gimmick of the film IMO, and it's only arguably a racist depiction because it's not depicting a "real" race; but this isn't the hill I choose to die on.

wasn't there some scifi "race of the future" type bit of this movie in the future timeline? it's been ages since i've seen it, might be thinking of something else or i just invented that to make it make sense to me at the time. if he's just supposed to be a korean guy like it's mentioned in that article chamomile linked, that's pretty fucked.

In the book there was a genetically engineered 3 meter tall work drone at some point.
