    Hi, :im-vegan:

Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

as far as is possible and practicable

AS FAR AS IS POSSIBLE AND PRACTICABLE

Making vaccines from hamsters is not vegan, but spreading diseases and killing people is even more not vegan, so the vaccines it is. No ethical consumption under capitalism, unfortunately

It's not vegan, heck most/all of the pharma industry at this point isn't vegan, but especially when you look at how diseases are studied, antibodies are produced etc.

Hamster ovary cells are used universally is a heck of a first sentence to read with no context

They're not ok to make, but on an individual level they are ok to take

By that logic it's ok to consume milk but not ok to milk it.

If something is for survival it's absurd to make a distinction between production and consumption.

it's possible to make vaccines from something else than bits of animal corpses. If you can't influence the production of vaccines and you need the vaccine to survive, it's ok to take it

But they use animal bits for a reason. It's not like the bio chemists just have an ancient grudge against hamsters. The existence of alternatives isn't enough justification for making something immoral. If it were it's make every driver morally culpable.
