Unfortunately significant portion of my friends seem to think that saying racist, sexist, fascist things and laughing is funny and quantifies as a joke. Basically how do you get shithead white suburb kids to care about struggles of people and not play that off as a joke?

Simple emotional manipulation and undermining of self-esteem in conjunction to the (real) perception of social judgement by your peers can make anyone except those too far gone to begin to doubt themselves. Key is to make it a serious, honest, calm, and direct criticism of their behavior in a one-on-one setting so as to deny them the possible social reinforcement that comes from being "publically percieved"
