  • The German defence minister's name is really Pistorius?

Yes, and he's the most popular politician in Germany right now with like 50% approval (lol).

He came in one year ago to replace a lady who refused to send tanks to Ukraine and didn't want the stress they put on her for that.

Pistorius just talks tough a lot and promises to thow money at the many problems of the armed forces. For that he was mocked a little and called "Pistol-ius" at first, but that's gone now. I have heard people at work - boomer PMCs, like educated people - worry about Russia launching missiles at Berlin. These guys must love a show-off like Pistorius.

  • If it helps, this won't be true in all likelihood. Part of the terror of the Iraq war was the annihilation of infrastructure, whereas my understanding is that that's been specifically avoided by the RF.

There's some truth to that, but I don't think we can really say Iraq was worse, looking back.

Iraq in 2005 was less devastated than Iraq in 2011, or Iraq in 2017. Regarding destroyed and maimed human lives, Ukraine may already be worse than Iraq 2005, that's two years into the forever war. Europe's economy cratering and Europe going full fascist might just be around the corner, there's your regional blowback. ISIS expanding to Syria took 10 years, who knows what we are going to see in the coming years.

  • Two years after Ratimir Poopin' personally invaded The Ukraine, Germany legalizes marihuana in a desperate attempt to shore up stoner support for democracy.

Hard to convey how big this is - sure, smoking weed has become as normalized here as anywhere else in the west, then again the repercussions for doing it are at least theoretically quite insane, like for example you automatically lose your drivers license for 6 months if you're caught DUI with any amount of cannabis in your piss.

The legalization itself is very German: it's 180+ pages of legalese, you have to register with a "smoking club" where you grow and share your weed among club members, 500 members per club max, no public or pharmacy dispensaries, no smoking within 500 yards of any school, playground or kindergarten, buying on the black market is still technically illegal and so is stashing more than 40 grams per adult... you know, rules-based stuff.

But at least it's mostly legal now, cops can't take it away any more and you won't get into legal trouble. Oh, I mean as soon as the lower house passes the bill, but they kinda have to apparently. I think this is the first time that I'm actually kinda happy about my government.

But it will get old real fast I bet.
