  • If it wasn't the wordcraft that turned you off Codenames then I think Decrypto is a much better execution. The opposing team is also trying to make guesses using your information, which makes it more of a spy game, and there is less RNG involved in being dealt good words.

Other than that I enjoy Coup and Citadels, basically any Mafia style game, as well as games where everyone is dealt a similar hand like Libertalia and Oriflame.

  • AI has been used to describe many other technologies, when those technologies became mature and useful in a domain though they stopped being called AI and were given a less vague name.

Also gamers use AI to refer to the logic operating NPCs and game master type stuff, no matter how basic it is. Nobody is confused about the infected in L4D being of Skynet level development, it was never sold as such.

The difference with this AI push is the amount of venture capital and public outreach. We are being propagandized. To think that wouldn't be the case if they simply used a different word in their commercial ventures is a bit... Idk, silly? Consider the NFT grift, most people didn't have any prior associations with the word nonfungible.

  • I don't really want to do everything in one language but if I did have to pick it would probably be Julia. It's slightly simpler than Python, and significantly faster without relying on APIs written in C. And has some really great features like broadcasting, multiple dispatch, and a good type system. The only place I feel like Python has it beat is quantity of libraries and support network, which both basically come from the same origin of just having more users. I'm hoping more data science types switch over in the next few years, since Julia is already great for most things mathematical. And I hope that momentum allows Julia to perhaps reach out to other domains.

Vegans are arguing about the oppression of animals, not themselves. Animals are being genocided, and in the most extreme way seen in history.

  • I eat a lot of beans and rice to save money, even did so before I was vegan, which made the typical baby vegan question of "What will I eat???" a no brainer. If you use spices and vary your beans I don't find it gets too boring. I love curries of all kinds, especially with hearty veg like onion, potato, eggplant. I make my own seitan cold cuts fairly often, a sandwich with that, a homemade sauce, and homemade pickled veg is so good.

I have a mac and cheese recipe that I came up with myself and improved over time that I make fairly often, it's great comfort food. Involves making a roux, then adding water, pickle brine (or vinegar), nooch, and spices. The roux is what makes it thick and creamy, the pickle brine gives it that sharp flavor that cheese has, loooots of nooch, and for spices salt obviously but things like paprika and dill are good. For the roux I use canola oil because it's cheap and healthier, but palm or deodorized coconut or vegan butter would give the best mouthfeel because of the saturated fat. After the sauce thickens and you stir in the cooked pasta you can either serve as is or bake. It's simple, fast, and cheap.

Going on 4 years, don't see any reason to stop.

  • I use Rate Your Music but I use it in a very peculiar way. Most of my listening is from scrolling through Latest Reviews for something that stands out and listening to it.

The second most common way I use RYM is to go to the page of an album I think is really special and click on user made lists that album is a part of and scroll through for things that look interesting.

The third way is when I notice I've liked a few things from a specific scene I like to go to the page for the record label that often represents artists from that scene. Currently I'm exploring Dischord Records.

Fourth, is if a genre is obscure or specific enough I will look at the charts for that genre. This is most common with electronic music, because it's so heavily taxonomized. Take for example Purple Sound which only has a couple hundred releases associated with it.

This definitely isn't how I recommend everyone find new music. But I do recommend freeing yourself from an algorithm and forging your own path. I find that algorithms often funnel a person into some kind of local maximum where most music presented is palatable but the chance to discover something revolutionary to their tastes decreases immensely, and to me that's just a bummer.

Love to see Gaucho, I can't count the number of times I've listened to it on my hands.

I need to listen to that Turn Back the Clock album, I'm a big fan of that style of music, Prefab Sprout, Beautiful South. If you like sophistipop and are looking for more non English music then I can't recommend Piano Bar from Charly Garcia enough.

81 was probably one of my favorite years in music. Has some strange post punk gems like Odyshape by The Raincoats and Deceit by This Heat.

Think this post confuses veganism and vegetarianism. Also it's chemicals all the way down. Those spices? Made of chemicals.

Those alternative burgers are actually pretty tasty but also very heavy because they are imitating beef. For American fare I'd generally prefer a sandwich with deli style meats made out of tofu or seitan, or a bean burger.
