it's going to scan all ports/inputs at post, you can try to reduce the amount of periphery devices attached to see if it will resolve. If it's struggling to read/verify an internal component, such as a secondary storage drive or a DVD bay then...well you can still unplug them but y'know - less of an easy fix. Keep in mind devices reliant on modular cabling which adjoins them will also need to be considered (as in consider the cabling itself as potentially faulty).

Of course it could be slow for other reasons but the above is fairly common.
