  • maybe FMLA can help out with that:

`What does FMLA do for me?

FMLA says you can have up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Your company also needs to maintain your group health benefits during this time. But whether they pay wages during this time is up to them.
When the 12 weeks are up, the company must put you back in the same job or an equivalent one (similar pay, similar job duties). In other words, they can’t fire you for using your FMLA, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have the exact same job you had before.

What are the limitations of FMLA?

Your employer may ask for documentation of the mental illness. Only a qualified professional (usually a doctor or a therapist) can provide you with the documentation you need. (Our online mental health screens are a helpful tool, but they don’t count as medical documentation.)
You usually can’t use FMLA until you’ve worked for the company for at least 12 months. This time doesn’t need to be consecutive.
You need to give a 30-day advanced notice if possible.
Not every employer has to follow FMLA. FMLA only applies to employers with 50 or more employees. If you work for a small business, they may voluntarily follow FMLA, but they don’t have to.`

  • it's going to scan all ports/inputs at post, you can try to reduce the amount of periphery devices attached to see if it will resolve. If it's struggling to read/verify an internal component, such as a secondary storage drive or a DVD bay then...well you can still unplug them but y'know - less of an easy fix. Keep in mind devices reliant on modular cabling which adjoins them will also need to be considered (as in consider the cabling itself as potentially faulty).

Of course it could be slow for other reasons but the above is fairly common.

  • god no

and maintaining them has been something I've been in a protracted people's war against since I was a child - makes no goddamn sense to force the nature around your home into a close shave forever

waste of time, waste of resources, promotes mono-cultures (so I hear I ain't no ecologist)

It's just some time-wasting faux discipline for HOA's to enforce aristocratic values
