help-circle

  • Vegan for 7 months now. Not planning on ever going back. My staple breakfast is hummus toast or overnight oats with whatever fruit I get plus peanut butter and banana or carob molasses for sweetness.

Often we cook different curries at home. Oven baked vegetables like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, potatoes (sweet or otherwise) with spices also work really well. I don't make it that often but misir wat (Ethiopian lentil stew) is out of this world, you can easily make it vegan. Legume stews are on the menu at all times, and soy sauce peanut butter pasta is a guilty pleasure.

  • Discworld is my go-to these days. Goes well with cross stitching

In contrast I would never want to listen to a Terry Pratchett book while doing something else

Ah well. Sarah J. Maas was also a fun experience. It's so bad it's good. I went with A court of thorns and roses but I hear her other series follow a similar vein. It's hard to miss the important details. Look for the Graphic Audio releases.

  • As others noted, lettuce is not that good bang for the buck, and bread keeps reasonably well in the fridge. Oatmeal is great and can be left overnight in the fridge and be ready for the morning. I do mine with a tablespoon of flax seeds, freshly ground, whatever nuts I have lying around or peanut butter, frozen berries (a lot cheaper than fresh ones, our Kaufland has the ones I like, Lidl tends to add cherries but YMMV in Germany) and plant milk of course. Any seasonal fruit goes well in oatmeal otherwise.

If you don't mind spending 20 minutes on a stove you can also make a salty version with some soy sauce, paprika, onions and a little bit of (rice) vinegar.

Not sure how much it costs in Germany but a small block of tofu, imported from Germany, in the Bulgarian Lidl costs 1€. There are multiple varieties. Basil tofu goes well in salads to add some extra protein.

Again it involves a bit of cooking but lentils are cheap fast cooking protein. Red lentils with bulgur Turkish style are love.

Turkish stores probably have Cig Köfte in the fridge. It's made of bulgur wheat, spiced, very nutritious, and relatively cheap. Goes well in wraps with hummus and tomatoes/cucumbers. Falafel is great too but it might cost more.

Explore the cuisine of other countries, especially Middle Eastern, Indian, and ones that are serious about Christian fasts (Ethiopia, Georgia, Armenia). They use ingredients that don't cost much, the meals are delicious, and oftentimes it's easy to prepare.

As for boxes, I use old brine cheese boxes (don't judge, leftover from my vegetarian years) in a plastic bag to prevent leakage. Otherwise make sure it makes a tight seal.

Shop smart, in the veganDE lemmy community there is a weekly post about vegan discounts in Germany. I would kill to have that here, might as well do it myself someday.

Not sure if I am of any help but best of luck. Cycling to work builds up muscle. Your endurance can only get better with time. I'm seriously considering cycling rather than walking too.

  • Terry Pratchett comes to mind with the Colour of Magic Discworld book. He describes it as "a bunch of essays" but it all reads like D&D sessions transformed into short stories. You even have ::: spoiler gods playing dice and rolling for the fate of the characters. :::

He gave up playing after a while, unhappy with the game becoming more complicated with further editions though.

  • Some brands seem to make it crunchy. I just eat that like cereal with soy milk or yogurt. I made the mistake of buying cheap muesly from the local convenience store and it was exactly how you described it. It was the "let sit overnight" type. Except it had cornflakes in it that would get soggy and fall apart.

I forced myself to eat most of it, the rest went to my local murder of crows who picked at the dried fruit and cornflakes and left the oats to the pigeons to deal with. I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't like them.

As for the crunchiness, maybe try making it into granola in the oven? Not sure if that would work but it's worth a shot.

    You have a pussy

    I have a dick

    So what's the problem

    Let's do it quick

Ausländer is good too. Maybe some Mann gegen Mann part if you're looking for a boyfriend (assuming you're male).

Why would anyone even put a Rammstein stanza on their tinder? It's edgy and rather cringy in my opinion for both initiated and uninitiated.

  • My mobile plan. The standard is signing for 24 months. I can't really choose a plan that suits me, they stick virtually unlimited calls (which I barely use), and add mobile data that I can't use up either. Settling for less barely reduces my bill if at all for whatever reason. On top of this, despite me signing for a set fixed amount to pay, they decide to "index" an extra 10-15% every year due to "unforseen circumstances" like inflation. And every time I sign a new contract I get an extra 10% on top of my bill for the same features I don't use. Oh and they add a "happy call" where the call signal sounds like a piercing annoying very low quality melody, despite me denying the service. Switching to another telecom doesn't really remedy the problem, the other two on the market here seem worse than mine in every respect.

Looking at the prepaid features, we're looking at a 40-50% reduction in monthly fees, just paying for what I use, whenever I want to use it. It's needlessly annoying switching from a subscription to a prepaid plan. You'd have to switch telecoms for a month and switch back to the one you like the most if you want to keep your number.

So yeah, as soon as my contract expires, I'm done with renewing. I'm sick of this.

  • I remember the info campaign of my country's change of currency when it got pegged to the Deutschmark after it did a Venezimbabwe. It was by a popular children's/teen tv show host.

I was about 2 or 3 but the only thing I remember is the news anchors repeating the word "Chechen" all the time. I understood nothing but it sounded funny.

We had a stereo with an inbuilt vinyl record player, as well as cassette tape player.

I played NES games on Terminator-2. Post-soviet collapse flooded the market with knockoffs which were decent for the price.

I remember watching Bill Clinton's scandal on the news though I had little idea what happened, nor what impeachment meant.
