  • Sometimes I just smile at how much I’m enjoying it - not because of comedy or anything, just genuine pleasure in watching something of such quality.

This is because the characterisation is so good. It doesn't really matter if a scene really has a purpose within the larger plot, as long as it illustrates how the different characters interact.

Even the 'lesser' seasons are still a joy because the characters are so great.

Imo the corona virus so clearly demonstrates that liberal democracy is bourgeois dictatorship. It is not the protection of human life or even the economy that is prioritised, but the narrow interests of the capitalist class.

Not that there is no concern for human life among some people in western governments, just that the whole system is set up to make it nigh impossible to actually go against the interests capitalist class.

In the West, before the government does anything, it has to negotiate with the business sector. I find this to be unimaginable in China. As a company, as a capitalist, you can make money, but if the CPC says 'jump' you better ask how high.

In the West, the bourgeoisie made obscene amounts of money while the proletariat is left in pergatory with the virus still around and no economic opportunities. In China, people are having giant pool parties and the economy is already recovering.

Whether China is socialist or not , it is clear that they have a considerable amount of control over capitalists, which is completely unimaginable in the West. Because whether it is the Dems, Repubs or any other western party in power, they always answer to the bourgeoisie not the people.

  • Just had a needlessly long and petty argument with people on worldnews, which isn't something I normally do because why bother. But hey, I couldn't sleep.

I think I finally understand the need to post your reddit arguments. It's not that you care about dislikes, but you just want somebody to say 'I also think these people are fucking stupid'. Hell is other people and all.

For all their faults, you'll be able to find people who say the Brits have charming humour, or you'll find people who think Americans are optimistic and sociable, but I've never met someone who actually likes the French.

  • Saying the problem is selfishnes still presupposes individualism: the problem is that there are individuals who act selfishly and they should stop doing so. It centers the solution around the actions of individuals.

But as socialists, we know this is not the real answer. It is material conditions that force people into competition against one another and isolates us from each other. Socialism will by definition have to be far less individualistic, but you'll still have selfish people.

It sounds kinda pretentious but I feel like the Chapo sub was on the cutting edge of meme culture. For example, it was the first place I really saw boomer memes and 'woke' memes. Things that would become part of the discourse in my country about a year later.

Not to say that these memes originated in the sub. But from my limited perspective chapo was very 'with it'.
