I don't have a problem with cass being an asshole. I have a problem with a class of people who are allowed to be assholes to people and a mod team who will ban anyone who looks at them sideways. And I have a problem with having a day of mourning when an asshole decides the drama they were acutely to blame for gives them bad feelings enough to leave the site and that being a reason to escalate the arbitrary and petty crackdowns.

I don't want to rehash that argument as anything other than as an example of how much you can get away with as an insider and how little you can be disciplined for as an outsider. I'm fine with f-bomb screaming matches between people. That's not my issue.

In any case, in that particular interaction I can see where the other poster was coming from (healthy paranoia), but he also was much more prickly than warranted.

He was banned in retaliation for less than the antagonism he received. He remained mostly civil throughout the entire interaction when she was immediately hostile and maintained that energy the entire time. Two completely different measuring sticks for insiders and outsiders to the clique.

I didn't know who she was until the giant drama posts but now that I'm forced to have an opinion, fuck Cass. She was an asshole who started fights with people but apparently was popular enough that their behavior didn't matter as much as people who were less of an asshole in retaliation to her.

I didn't question the transphobe purge until just recently but now I no longer trust the admins and mods. I have no confidence that was anything other than some bullshit they said to ban people who bickered with the insider clique. Now that yesterday's drama post actually gave an example of how little it takes and how much the site will gaslight an ethical problem from simply displeasing a power user.

'Responding harshly' is a nice way of saying 'being an asshole' and being an asshole is instigation categorically. And sure he had a dumb take but we're talking about something that supposedly paralyzed the entire site with drama
