  • I have this theory that those posts were happening because the community management was so good that people were overly attached in a sort of parasocial way

There are a few specific cases whereI know this is exactly what happened. We tried to avoid the parasocial-ness of it by being active community members, but at the end of the day we just did not know everyone who was giving us praise.

There should be some sort of middle between though that works.

Maybe a semi-regular checkin post or changes log would be a good idea. I dunno. I’m sure admins will review and discuss

  • Understood. It’s been a while but I’ve got some time to poke some folks and see how things are going.

Edit: after a cursory glance it looks like people are on top of their tasks and it’s just been a matter of not wanting to fix a known issue without a db engineer to make sure it doesn’t crash the site

Edit 2: and there’s been progress on this in the past month or so. I don’t wanna tag anyone in case they’re trying to keep their dev status on the dl but the work looks promising

  • Not knowing who’s running anything and who’s responsibility anything is probably makes it hard for possible volunteers to gauge whether they want to step up

Every time I log on after a few months, fewer and fewer people recognize me, which I think is a good thing. So I don’t know if this will mean anything to anyone, but I will fully vouch that the keys to the site are in good hands.

A lot of care was taken in making sure Beatnik’s status as a single point of failure wasn’t replicated and that his responsibilities were distributed to people who had already shown they were trustworthy and capable of fulfilling them.

  • Hey, I was perusing this for… reasons. You’re onto something here.

We thought for a while that FUCKTHEPAINTUP was a Kerry account, and later I believed it was a :baseball-crank: account. But Rachel claimed to know :baseball-crank: irl and FTPU’s last comment is basically an I-told-you-so about :baseball-crank:. So this being a Rachel alt all along and having that evolve into BMF would be an interesting twist.
