Sunaurus, I respect your opinions deeply- hexbear is a problem. They are engaging in outright brigading and vote manipulation to push their desired political content to the top of our instance, overwhelming users here.
That being said I don’t want to defederate from them either
So as for hexbear banning Lemm.ee users, it’s vote manipulation. They ban users from different communities they don’t like, then brigade those communities. Except now the banned users can’t see(and therefore downvote) their bullshit.

Present. Using this as I did reddit. It’s like browsing a lot of the smaller subreddits I enjoyed, but all the time.
Downsides are less content, and definite growing pains. I think there are some aspects of the platform severely limiting its growth at this time, and I’m not sure how it’s going to tackle them yet. But I’m along for the ride.

To address your 2nd point, lemmit.online addresses that in their FAQ, they won’t tone down the posting and suggest defederating if you dislike the automated content

But would you say that blocking them improved your Lemmy experience?

Voyager on iPhone shits the bed when trying to open their user profile, zerobyte.monster is the one I haven’t been able to block yet
It’s annoying because in some instances a repost bot makes sense, specifically where content and comments are a bit more asynchronous.
Some kinds of news for example- having an article reposted isn’t really terrible because we’re all just going to the same article then posting comments on our respective platforms.
But posts where op is expecting any kind of reply are dead in the water once they’re posted here, they just take up space and clutter up the timeline.

I’m going to keep echoing this argument: just blocking the user is a shitty solution, because now new users are going to be alienated, especially if they browse by new.
Your example of spambots posting from lemm.ee break down fast because, you said it: we ban the spam bot. Lemmit.online is nothing but spam, all the time
If lemmit.online were a community within lemm.ee, it would be removed

Google, definitely. Microsoft sliiiightly less so, windows specifically you can turn off most monitoring and telemetry- though it would still violate the 100% FOSS idea since windows is technically proprietary
If you’re going for 100% FOSS, trash your apple products.
I’ve noticed users in hexbear go so far to “target bigots” that they’re just assholes to the vast majority of people outside of hexbear.
