  • But this was how I became the public-health official who, very early in the pandemic, instructed people not to wear a mask.

This was a supposed "white lie" to try to preserve ppe for medical professionals, which was stupid because a lot of nurses and doctors took it to mean they didn't need ppe, and as far as I know the government didn't even try to secure any ppe for medical professionals or make sure they were available.

We knew it was airborne by how quickly it was spreading. The WHO knew it was airborne and immediately started upgrading their offices to filter the air, even while they told the world it wasn't airborne. The reason they didn't say it was airborne was because it would mean hospitals would have to take more strict measures to protect everyone, and it would cost a lot and make the job harder.

It's insulting to be told that the evidence at the time showed that it wasn't warranted to take airborne measures.

  • The anti vax campaigns people and governments have been running are doing damage, for sure.

In the UK at least, vaccination rates are at a 10 year low. With something as infectious as measles that might be enough to see the huge outbreaks we are seeing.

Then you have Dtap vaccines, which are down a couple percent in the UK over the last few years, but is that enough to explain things like this:

    Show

And we are also seeing a rise in rare cancers and other diseases that are usually only associated with immune disorders like AIDS.

  • I guess I'm lucky. There are still a few people who mask where I work, and a lot of our customers still mask, and seem to appreciate how many employees are still masking. I would guess like 10% of people mask during the spring/summer, and 20-25% in the fall/winter.

I haven't been sick in nearly two years, it's great. Before covid it was roughly once every two or three months, and most of winter. At this point, even if covid went away I wouldn't stop. Work isn't worth getting sick for.

  • His fifth infection did it. Awesome.

Once again, every study that has tried to measure the risk of reinfections shows that risk of long covid goes up with each infection.

And since most people have had "mild" covid infections at this point, survivorship bias kicks in and people think it's no big deal.

    Not great.
