  • A couple things I haven't seen mentioned.

Get a smart watch that tracks your sleep. I like the Samsung Galaxy, but there are much cheaper options, like those from amazefit. This will give you a baseline of how much sleep you're actually getting and an idea of the quality as well. Being able to quantify it has helped me get substantially more regular sleep, and showed me how much I actually need. Plus the vibrating alarm is better for actually waking me up, and I can set an alarm to remind me to get ready for bed.

Use a meditation app with some comfortable Bluetooth headphones. I like insight timer. I hate meditation, and particularly those 'body focus' ones. I'm already hyper aware of my body, but there are plenty of options and they do really help you get to sleep.

  • Yes. Also, just because you don't jive with one particular autist at one point in your life doesn't mean you're not autistic too. Especially getting to adulthood without being diagnosed, you will have developed a wide range of coping skills that may make it more difficult to recognize. Since you're already watching videos of autistic people, id dive into watching videos of a wide range of adult autists. If some of them click with you then look further. I would love to just tell you to go talk to a specialist, but adult autism isn't something that many are qualified to diagnose, but plenty of doctors think they can tell you you don't have it, when they really don't have the requisite knowledge to make that determination. So look into it yourself first so you know whether to push.

But yeah, I've not seen neurotypical people behave like that. But my daughter and I both do similar things.

  • I ordinarily don't eat lunch. Or breakfast. I eat a large dinner. If you eat less carbohydrates your body won't feel bad when it runs out, which might be why you feel bad after eating, if it's a while after.

Today, i'm eating lunch, and it's some pasta with olive oil, dill, and some canned tuna. Most of the time I eat the pasta right out of the fridge without heating it. You don't even need olive oil if you use tuna packed in olive oil.

Other times, I'll eat some raw vegetables and a can of some sort of meat, or I'll eat leftovers. Usually cold.

I've been intermittent fasting for quite some time, and it kind of makes you reevaluate your relationship with food. A meal can certainly be a luxurious experience, or it can just be fuel to get you through your day. I actually prefer eating one large meal a day, but it does tend to increase your cortisol levels, so when i'm already very stressed I tend to eat some lunch.

  • Yeah. I recently bought a tape drive to do just that. Turns out fiber channel hbas are harder to get working than I thought. First one didn't fit, like physically the card was too long and hit the CPU fan power connector. Second one fit, but the computer wouldn't boot. Third I get a driver error, and since it's enterprise stuff the threads I find on it basically say 'contact your vendor'. At least they're really cheap. Should have spent the extra money for a SAS compatible one.

  • Not evolving is a feature. I started using linux in the 90s, and you know what? About 90% of the stuff I learned then is still completely relevant.

I hate GUI apps for most things, because you have to search to figure out how to do anything. With CLI apps you read the man page and you know how to use it.

  • Are they as naggy about upgrading from a free license as autodesk? I see that all designs in the free tier license are public, which I imagine stops a lot of commercial abuse. Seems like a fair trade off to me. I put anything I think anyone would find useful on thingiverse anyway.

Fusion used to be great, but they bother me so much about upgrading now. It's a hobby. I'd spend a couple hundred bucks on the software if they had a 'seriously, i'm a legit hobby user just stop nagging me' tier, but their pricing is insane if you're not using it to generate income.
