  • Anarchism isn't no government, it's no state. The distinction between a government and a state varies between different definitions, but the most widely accepted distinguishing characteristic of a state is a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence.

For example, a high school club might have a system of government, with a president, treasurer, and secretary. But the club president has no greater right to the use of violence than any other member.

It may be hard to imagine a national government operating the same way, but I believe it is possible.

  • They allow anarchists and communists, just not the kind of socialist who says we can't do a communist revolution right away, and instead we have to do a socialist revolution and then slowly reach communism over a century of slow, moderate reforms. People who are opposed to the idea of achieving communism within their own lifetimes aren't communists, because why would they be? They're always saying to slow down, don't rock the boat, don't be too radical. Standing in the way of communists who want to actually do communism.

Unfortunately, db0 has secret rules against being autistic so fuck em.

  • it's not "tankie" to point out that if you spend a large amount of your time browsing an internet forum you are probably decently well off in life

I spend a lot of time browsing an internet forum because I'm unemployed and homeless and I need a distraction to occupy my brain and keep the PTSD flashbacks away. Back when I had a job, I spent less time online because I was busy actually doing it. But I did still need to spend more time online than most people because if I let myself just enjoy life in the moment and clear my mind, the flashbacks from my abuse would come in and ruin my day with feelings of powerlessness, fear, and anger. Now that I have PTSD and also live in a homeless shelter, I spend more time online than before.

Why would well off people spend more time online? Most of the chronically online people I know need lots of time on the internet because they're trans, disabled, or unemployed. If meatspace was kind to them, they'd spend more time there, but it's not. They're the kind of people who are looking for an escape because life is cruel to them.

  • That's not true. That's like saying "If we had refrigerators, we could keep food good forever". As you know, food in the fridge can still go bad, because no technology is perfect. I think that terraforming technology will be an extension of techniques we can use on earth today, like controlling emissions. And that saving earth from apocalypse is the best possible practice we could have for fixing other planets. There is no magic "fix everything" button. Even with the right technology, you still have to do the work. Today, we have the right technology to save Earth, and what determines the continued survival of the human species is whether it is capable of doing the work.
