What about Andor? Star Wars, while aesthetically grimy, is certainly not usually cyberpunk. Andor pushes "high tech, low life", and has an anti-hero and other morally grey characters fighting a totalitarian government. So now that I think about it it does feel a bit cyberpunk, but I'd say it isn't because ultimately its problems and solutions are too far divorced from those of our world.

But that is what I think is most important about cyberpunk, that it extrapolates the problems and struggles of our current world. The tech themes and 80s aesthetics are just incidental. Which has me asking "Is 1984 (proto) cyberpunk?" 🤔

I actually think up- and downvotes are inherently asymmetrical in this respect.

Upvoting things you agree with is fine and a main use of the function. Why then is downvoting things you disagree with wrong? Because the purpose of voting is visibility, you upvote things you want people to see, like arguments you agree with, and downvote those you don't think people should see.

Now if you believe in having an open discussion you don't want to suppress posts just because you disagree with them. Disagreeing is fine, so downvoting is reserved for posts that detract from the conversation.

I honestly kind of like the title and the angle of being brutally honest about the fact that the author (like most who are well off) actually benefit a lot from world hunger. That's an important point, not because we should support world hunger, but because if we are to tackle it we must be willing to lower our standard of living.

The UN really shot themselves in the foot by deleting it, because the title only looks bad if you don't actually read the rest of the text, which they now made more difficult.

It does explain those things! I quote:

"While it is true that hunger is caused by low-paying jobs, we need to understand that hunger at the same time causes low-paying jobs to be created."

The title is clearly thinly veiled satire and a pointed reminder that our current wealth is founded on the suffering of the poor.

I'm still pissed at being forced to write in a passive voice in university. It's awkward and carries less information, and makes it seem like nobody had any agency, science just kind of happened on its own and you were there to observe it.

I don't know why anyone would prefer something like "An experiment was conducted and it was found that..."

To the much better "We conducted an experiment and found..."

I was surprised to learn that they have their own streaming service, full service production agency and tech convention, and that their store sells a lot more than just t-shirts.

It seems safe to say that yes, they do want their fingers in every pie.
