  • Both.

Checklists are on my phone, as it automatically hides checked items, making the remaining items easier to see.

Procedural lists, such as a task list with items that have to be done in order often go on paper, such as when I'm traveling: each line has flight number, time, from-to, and booking references.

Calendars go on both, as loads of household planning has to take my work schedule into account. The consolidated one that contains everything that has been finalized so far hangs in the kitchen, while the things that are subject to change as on phones/laptops

  • Server clusters and fiberoptic networks. My parents ran a dairy and cattle farm better than I ever could, though. In a pinch I could probably do it, but not for 40 fucking years.

My mom is 72 now. I wonder if I could teach her the concepts of my job if she really wanted to.

Edit: Funny thought I just had.. I am myself a living incarnation of the "old man yells at cloud"-meme, as I mostly deal with on-prem stuff. I've toyed around a bit with Azure, but that's it. My dad liked excel for accounting, that was the extent of his IT skills. Holy fuck, him dealing with azure would piss him off enough to stay alive longer just to get a chance to kick whoever invented cloud computing in the nuts. He's among the most stubborn people I've ever known.

  • Alright, i misunderstood your question, and I was thinking of a very different scale and setup. But I'll post it anyway in case someone finds it useful.

I can absolutely recommend the Seagate Exos Series. Reliable, fast, and durable. I have 864 of these spinning at work, and the only ones who've failed are likely due to the harsh operating environment. I've used them since 4TB, and now 10tb. We'll probably go for the same brand when upgrading again in about 6 months.

Can you claim that you don't have a smartphone? Then they'd either have to provide an alternative authentication method, or provide you with a phone.

I've been part of the Microsoft Bad crowd for well over 25 years now, but there are a few things that I will concede that MS has done well. Authenticator is one of them. I haven't looked much into the privacy aspect of it, though.

  • Same. I used mIRC back in the 90's, but ever since I started dabbling with servers I preferred to have an irssi client running inside a screen session somewhere. Allowed me to catch up on things that happened while I was AFK, as well as provide some continuity while I was on the move and/or on a dodgy connection.
