I assume SSH is not exposed to the internet by default on openSUSE? I have not used SSH on my install so should I be safe if I just update?

Following the practice of British ensigns, a canton sometimes contains a symbol of national unity, such as the blue field and white stars of the flag of the United States of America. In these cases, the canton may be called simply the union.

From chapter 1 of the flag code:

The flag of the United States shall be thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white; and the union of the flag shall be forty-eight stars, white in a blue field.

The "union" of a flag is defined as the "upper inner corner" of the flag. So it does not define the size, but does define where it should be.

The flag code does specify where the blue should be though.

I bought a 13 recently and I love it. There's really only a slight premium when you look at comparable laptops in terms of size/weight, screen quality, etc... but that premium is exactly why it's feasible. They can sell laptops for $600 because they know you're going to buy a brand new one in a few years. With Framework you can replace whatever you need to so long term maintenance becomes less expensive.

I'm not sure about Windows, but it works out of the box on Linux.

Maybe I'm old but I'm really getting annoyed with apps becoming so bloated with features. The podcast integration was part of why I left Spotify. I was tired of having podcasts pop up on my home screen. Tidal luckily is free from this for the moment.

I think there are two big reasons...

• During the big Reddit exodus, a lot of people were recommending lemmy.world.
• It's a general purpose instance. People tend to flock to those rather than more specific topical instances.

Don't be afraid to customize your install with YaST. You can add/remove packages before you do the installation.

You'll need packman if you need restricted codecs for video.

Update with zypper dup as a general rule.

I bought 32GB so I might be mounting something as tmpfs rather than using swap :)

Hmmm, most reviews/forum posts I've read have said more like 6 hour battery life even with zoom calls so surprised to see your results. I guess we'll see. Likely some driver issues with the current platform.

That said, I almost always have a charger around and never spend more than an hour or two at a time so it's not a deal breaker regardless.

I'm honestly getting a bit disillusioned with Cast. I replaced all my Sonos with Nest speakers because of the better voice assistant functionality. "Fully supported" services like YouTube Music (that can be integrated as your default music service) work fine. But when I'm trying to use Plex or Tidal I run into issues if I try to include things like my Nest Hub in a group or dynamically add/remove speakers from what's playing.

Yeah it's not that it's hard, I'm just going to give my money to a company that supports Linux.

I used to be a huge fan of GOG with the whole DRM free thing. But their poor Linux support just drove me to Steam. They promised a Linux version of their launcher for years. The request has 14,000 up votes. But they still won't create a Linux version. I honestly don't particularly care about the launcher, it's just the fact that Linux is not a priority for them.

Combining that with the lack of GeForce Now support I've basically gone to only using them for older classic games.

As many others have said, the choice is not between antiperspirant and nothing. I use deodorant but no antiperspirant.

The main issue with Usenet is retention. I don't mean that you should worry too much about retention on your particular providers, but just as a general concept the idea that after 10-15 years files go away means that it can be tough to find older media, especially media that is not popular enough for people to reupload.

People always talk about needing multiple servers but I just use Astraweb and I have been fine. I have a block plan on another server somewhere but I honestly didn't even set it up when I reconfigured nzbget.

Movies and TV shows have been super easy to find on Usenet, but even with a couple private indexers I have found music and books to be hit or miss. I use Tidal with Plex and the $10 per month has been worth it to me simply because I listen to a ton of different music. That said, probably 80% of what I listen to has been available on Usenet.

I read a lot of nerdy books (fantasy and sci-fi) and that's been easy enough to find, but my wife's more mainstream tastes have actually been trickier.
