Damn that goes hard. James 5 for those wondering, had to look it up.
It is ambiguous because fish are not humans. You are anthropomorphizing the experience of the fish.
That being said, I do not fish and it appears very cruel.
This generally lines up with capitalist profit-seeking making everything worse, more vapid and bland. I agree with him largely. Mainstream shit is dumber and dumber. Doesn't mean great stuff stops getting made, it's just not part of the equation in these hollywood juggernaut board meetings.
Anecdotally I've had young adults burnt out by work and stress explicitly state they want easy brain dead shit to consume. Hard to argue with that honest perspective.
I agree that even if an author claims there is no meaning in a story they wrote, and even if the story itself seems vapid, meaning can indeed be pulled out, or at the very least the story can serve as a data point in a meta analysis of cultural trends of the time, etc....while I agree with this, a ton of people really do just absorb stories at face value cause it's interesting to exist somewhere else for a bit or vicariously experience emotions through characters or just enjoy a series of thrilling events.
This is so similar to my situation. I'm deeply anxious and have avoided life for...a long time. Gonna need to find an income soon, so really I'm looking for advice in this thread as well, lol. It's difficult to find motivation to get a job when you're already not finding much satisfaction in life. I suppose the hope is that any change or shake-up at this point can lead to at least something different and possibly even better. But I really do sympathize with the anxious fears you listed, just reading them caused me some symptoms
Just want to let you know that I sympathize and wish you luck!
Also, how did you manage to be life avoidant and not like videogames? Impressive
Gonna paint all these fruit as cover for my true desire--a specific collarbone-trapezius-shoulder area fetish
Honestly have a hard time correctly identifying the shame that I shouldn't feel and the shame that I should feel regarding this stuff.
Good points. Mass Effect felt dated pretty quickly imo, it's a great reflection of it's time/society in that way, though. Very chauvinistic and individualistic.
I've always felt that stories with more limited scope are far better than grand scale stories, and I think the difficulty of writing materialism in an engaging way is likely related. The grand scale stories feel hollow when the story format demands to be told through a handful of characters (low key why I felt the ending of the Dune Part 2 movie was sorta hollow)
I've never engaged in fan discussions, but I enjoy how you've utilized them to back the assertion that Dragon Age is overall better based on the greater depth and nuance of its debates.
Helplessness Blues while being the crack smoking president's son is too good
I'm glad to have seen, albeit very young at the time, the world pre Internet/smart phone.
I saw Her for the first time this year and it looks nice and sounds nice but dang it's pretty cringe with the self insert sad sack white boy stuff. A big part of AI ScarJo's self actualization is by hanging out with AI Alan Watts. And they do Rooney Mara dirty with her cliche emotional ex-gf routine. I legit thought the movie was gonna turn itself against the protag but it never comes. Like, dang did I write this screenplay as a teenager? /end rant
swing revival revival
It's called being depressed
Legitimately thought he was the director of "12 years a slave" for far too long. This Steve McQueen died in 1980.
Shit take, everyone sucks here
"Men" is definitely not excellent imo. He is a talented aesthetic filmmaker but seems a little too dumb to tackle the themes in his movies.
Counterpoint: the "I don't want to set the world on fire" song is very catchy and singable
Have you considered once swords but now guns?
Yeah I'm sure those Dutch football fans in black face don't have any racist feelings/thoughts about the world whatsoever...
