Aw man. He's one of these artists I was just getting back into recently. I didn't know about all his collaborations with fellow indigenous performers until a couple of weeks ago, but there's some good stuff in his later albums!
Just check on my Mac. Double-clicking a .7z launches the built-in Archive Utility which expands it on the spot.
Speaking of Mac, I noticed .dmg -- the native disk image format -- now supports lzma compression (what 7z uses) but it looks like you can only create such an image at the command line level using hdiutil. They should make it an option in Disk Utility.
