The country’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign got off to a slow start. Now it’s trying to catch up with a medley of incentives and heavy-handed approaches.

"heavy-handed"

The vaccination campaign got off to a slow start, from what I understand, is that despite having home grown vaccine development and being a major manufacturing centre, China had such few covid cases that they exported most of the vaccines produced to developing nations that couldn't afford the exploitative prices that western companies were strong-arming them into.

So yeah, they were off to a "slow start" by treating a world wide pandemic as if it is a world wide pandemic, and assisting countries that were left of it of luck by America.

Saying that, if cases in China started increasing they would quickly catch up. They've proven they have the infrastructure to manage it, unlike the just-in-time bare minimum western health care systems.

Yeah, most places in China don't even need the vaccine immediately because there haven't been any cases in months...

That's innovative free enterprise, not evil government though.

Don't kids get lollipops and stuff for going to the doctors or is that just a thing in American cartoons and sitcoms?

Honestly I have no idea if that ever typically happened anywhere at any point in time, I just assumed it was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting of "Very loosely based on an extremely idealized version of reality". Zero fucking idea if it ever really happened beyond one guy's practice in Tennessee or something

My dentist used to do it, but he was literally born in the 1920s. :chomsky-yes-honey:

“Vaccination campaign off to a slow start” cuz CCP failed to let the pandemic get out of control outside the original one-municipality outbreak. Tsk tsk tsk.

Not like they can't take their time vaccinating people given that they actually have a handle on the virus. But the US wouldn't know anything about that

Honestly yeah I see their point, McDonalds ice cream should be banned by torture laws.

This is the equivalent of saying "China is exhibiting poor form on its victory lap".

They don't need the vaccine remotely as much as other countries do.

They've got a much larger population to insulate and far more to lose if it goes unchecked.

Of course, this is a country that built a brand new hospital in 19 days, or whatever. I trust their bureaucrats to execute on a plan far more than the clowns State-side.

They can afford to take their time. They already demonstrated they can beat the pandemic without relying on vaccines.

“They say it’s voluntary, but if you don’t get the vaccine, they’ll just keep calling you,” said Annie Chen...

Worried about possible side effects, Ms. Chen had not planned to sign up....

Public anxiety about the vaccines emerged early. ...

Some social media users have complained that the pressure campaigns restrict their right of choice....

They're literally running anti-vax shit in the NYT. Fucking awesome. Love it. Can't imagine why my country's people have such a chronic case of brain worms.
