it is clear to me that mechagodzilla is an analogue for the dangerous game that the CCP is currently playing. for the excellence of humanity, they've harnessed the dark, unbridled powers of capitalism under an authoritarian regime (represented by walter) . they believe they have complete control of it, but as the movie shows, the monster that is capitalism can easily gain a mind of its own and wreck havoc on unwilling populations. if they fail to keep their state capitalism under control, a loose federation of western powers, under the gentle guidance of democratic socialists (there's an obvious reason one of the protagonists is named bernie), will be left with no choice but to yield their burgeoning market socialist economies (their own "titans") to dismantle china's reckless machine. this point is all the more punctuated by the hong kong setting of the final battle, a city where we currently see a not to dissimilar struggle occurring today
