good post and smart thought. i have a six year old macbook pro that is still running along, and i haven't thought about its end of life, but installing stupid sexy linux is now the obvious play.

I hear Kubuntu can run on only 2 GB but Lubuntu is probably a better choice, both are based on Ubuntu so very stable. It's worth a shot trying Kubuntu if you are looking for something nice cause Kubuntu uses KDE Plasma which is just great imo
That's great! We need more leftist programmers :) Switching to Linux on this old laptop might end up getting you to completely embrace Linux :sicko-hyper:
There are certain Linux distros that can run on devices with only 1GB of RAM
uh got an m1 and kinda sad that i wont be able to do it
got it both to see how the thing works, and also wanted a unix like that i could use with my camera(and the battery life was too enticing, sorry rms)
It's gonna take a while for linux to work on m1. If you are looking for something new and enticing to try out then you might find this Chinese tablet interesting. It's the world's first linux tablet that you can use as a laptop and it supports Android apps. Here is a preview video. It isn't out yet but I've been following them and their OS
