Suzerain is pretty cool. There are a lot of endings and you get political compassed at the end (it makes sense in the game because the limits are defined by other in game characters).

I've only done one playthrough, but apparently there are a ton of branches to go down (one of which ends in nuclear apocalypse) and it lets you smoke cigars with the game's equivalent of Stalin so pretty based in my book. It also does a really good job of painting the Communists as the good guys (with occasional exceptions, namely a questionable ethnic cleansing event that might have been spurred by NATO supplying arms to extremists) and NATO as literally funding a monarchy and providing them with nukes.

I had a really good time with it and apparently it has a lot of branching paths, but since it has a single autosave I only played through it once. It's good for a couple evenings of light reading style fun.

Yea, it is probably as close to feeling like actually running a country as you'll get without being extremely boring. Lots of choices to be made and it actually incentivises making compromises, being corrupt and selling out your beliefs just like in real life so it isn't super easy to just always take the righteous route.
