I thought the lab conspiracy was just a fringe thing but now all the libs are peddling the Wuhan lab conspiracy and calling anyone who disagrees a right winger. What the fuck happened??

I think the virus came from either a natural spillover - it jumped from a bat to a human (possibly through an intermediary) or from a laboratory - someone in the Wuhan Institute of Virology was studying the virus and an accident happened (could be as simple as a safety suit rupturing, a vent breaking, who knows) and it got out. I am not partial to one of those explanations over the other because there's only circumstantial evidence for either. I do not believe there was malicious intent on anyone's part, but I do believe the science right now indicates the lab leak theory is plenty credible.
I beleive it is incredibly important to find the origin of COVID because if it did come from a lab accident then there needs to be a serious evaluation of virology as a science. Millions of people in the Global South died from this virus. We owe it to the Global South to know if this was preventable.
I am not "pushing" one side or the other. I believe both explanations are credible and we owe it to the rest of the world to find out what happened. I criticize people who dismiss the lab accident theory as a conspiracy just as strongly as I criticize people who accept it as fact.
I wish an investigation into a potential accident at a virology laboratory could better prevent accidents like these in the future. Maybe I'm just cynical, but the biggest thing I expect the results would be used for would be to manufacture more consent for more confrontation with China.
Also, you're completely overlooking other reasons why the Global South was particularly hit so hard by this virus. They had much fewer resources to deal with the virus, and received little to no aid from better-off countries who were able to respond to the virus more effectively. Even now with things like vaccine patents the Global South is left with few resources to respond to the virus. I'm not saying preventing another viral outbreak in the future wouldn't resolve that issue - but it's disingenuous to point out the Global South specifically without addressing the conditions that caused them to be hit so hard.
True, but those conditions are unlikely to be solved in the near term so preventing another pandemic is essential for the health of everyone, but especially the global south
Honestly, labs should update their protocols as if this was an accidental lab leak regardless of whether or not it turns out to be the ultimate cause. Because it certainly wouldn't be the only time a virus escaped from a virology lab.
