I would kill for permanent employment. the longest I've ever had a job for is a year. how the fuck are you supposed to do anything when you don't know if you'll have a job in 6 months? because I always feel like I can't spend anything knowing that in 4 months time that night out I spend £60 on might be the difference between making rent or not when I'm out of work. I'm considering just getting a courier job because as shitty as uber eats or deliveroo might be, at least people are still gonna be ordering food on them in 6 months time
being autistic doesn't help either. because sure I could probably get a retail job but I can't do eye contact. and if I keep not looking people in the eye I know that's gonna become an issue. I've worked as a cleaner, rubbish collector, grounds keeper, street sweeper, construction worker, all of which I am happy to do you just kinda turn your brain off and get to work then go home, they are just never stable employment
it is but like, so much of it is just temporary. they take people on via job agencies and it can take years to get a full contract. during that time you're agency they just let people go and hire new ones all the time to not give them full benefits after 3 months, or the council needs to make cuts so you just get sacked outright. I've worked for 3 different councils so far
fire and rehire is very common these days, but that aside there really are just not enough stable long term jobs yeah. and what there is is shitty zero hours contracts, 'self employed' work like uber, or jobs where they treat you like shit until you quit but they always have more people coming in due to the lack of jobs

god i hate zero hours contracts, whoever came up with that idea needs shooting
perpetually never knowing how much work you're going to get despite being ""employed"" is just evil
