Hello users of Hexbear!

Some of you may have noticed some new communities created, and one ... deleted.

I now come to you asking if anyone motivated enough would care to submit an application to become a moderator. You may do so through hexbear DM or through matrix DM (instructions at the end of the post)

We are specifically looking for new moderators in these communities (dunk tank, askchapo, memes, chat, politics, electoralism, doomer, covid, fashion, europe, travel, islam) but accepting applications for any community that you are interested in.

Also, if you would like to create a community please comment what the community is in this post or make a post in https://hexbear.net/c/commrequest

You may also use this post to comment any comments, questions, concerns, criticisms, or compliments related to hexbear, its moderation, or the community.

Thank you everyone for another year of great posting!!!

Element information

Element is a messaging app that lets you talk to people over the Matrix protocol.

To get started, check out this link, where you can choose to either download Element for your platform or, if on a computer, open it in a browser ("Launch Element Web").

The instructions that follow are for the desktop application and the web application, but the process is similar on all apps:

  • Press "Create Account"
  • We host our own Matrix server, so if you want you can change matrix.org to chapo.chat. This is completely optional; users who sign up with a matrix.org username can still talk to people with chapo.chat username. (Note: It is chapo.chat, not hexbear.net. Also, registrations aren't always open on chapo.chat; if they're not, just create an account on matrix.org)
  • Fill in a username and password
  • Hit register, and you're done!

I would only consider becoming a mod if the mod team is understaffed, and there is a high demand for mods. I do think it would be cool if we had more POC on the mod team, speaking as a black guy from Europe

I don't think they'd be asking like this if they weren't a bit understaffed, at least on certain comms. If you're online at all frequently anyhow, why not mod a comm or two? Mainly you just have to respond to reports afaik, so it'll show up in your inbox and you just remove the comment, ban, leave it in place, depending on if it's actually against the rules, and then clear the report as resolved
