Minecraft is the best selling game of all time. It's a open world sand box game available in almost every modern platform, and has sold 200 million copies. It was created by Hatsune Miku alone.
What many players do in this game is build buildings and correct resources to expand their base, however that is not my playstyle so I won't be discussing that, I will be talking about speedrunning for most of this thread.
Minecraft is a constantly updated game, with only a single Minecraft Bedrock, Java, Education and Pocket edition (these are the main editions, I will focus on Java edition). It's updates are by 1.(update version).(sub update version). My main focus will be on versions 1.7-1.8, 1.12.2 and 1.16.1.
Very basics of speedrunning.
All pre 1.9 non-SSG main categories require obtaining ender pearls and blaze rods to enter the end portal. The end portal is in the stronghold, located using the eyes of ender created with pearls and rods. Optimally obtaining end pearls changes throughout the versions, however blaze rods are always dropped from blazes in the nether fortress. Nether fortresses are in the nether, typically entered via magma ravines or (especially in pre 1.13, as this was the version where magma ravines where added) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPm7RC1EG90&t=1s](a lava pool)
1.7-1.8
1.8 is the main version used for PVP in Minecraft. This is due to the difference in player knockback and most importantly damage and damage cooldown differences.
The main Minecraft server used for PVP and the most popular server in the game is hypixel.net, a multi-mini game server, average around 100k players a day (you can fact check me on this I am not sure on the specifics).
1.8 in conjunction with 1.7.2 are the two main categories ran for pre 1.9 speedrunning. 1.8 has different Endermen AI as well as different bed explosion mechanics (this is extremely important to quickly kill the ender dragon, the final goal of a typical RSG/SSG/SRG/FSG speedrun. More on these categories later.). The strategy used at the moment is to use tower strategies to kill Endermen very quickly, and get ender pearls from them. 19:52 world record can be viewed here . The current WR is in 1.8 and sub 20 minutes.
1.12.2
This version is not nearly as speedran as other versions, as in the 3 sub categories pre 1.9, 1.9-1.15, and 1.16 1.12 falls in 1.9-1.15 which has 1.14 and 1.15, far faster versions for speedrunning however as a person deeply involved in advocating for a 1.9-1.13 category split as well as strategy crafting for 1.12 and 1.13, I I find it extremely enjoyable and with much to talk about. 1.12 uses one of these towers:
Volcano: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1105560942
https://youtu.be/c9wQFiqZayk Calm tower
reasons for a 1.9-1.13 category split
1.14+ has different ender dragon mechanics, with a perch allowing for one cycling. 1.9-1.13 does not have this, as well as a different end fight from pre 1.9, which involves dragon charging and single bed explosions.
1.14+ also has vastly different villager trading mechanics, far overshadowing the villager trading doable in 1.13 and 1.12.
There's far more in-depth discussion about a split, however this is a entry level minecraft megathread
1.16+
This is my main version and the most popular speedrunning category at the moment, and the 2nd most popular of all time, despite being little more than a year old.
1.16 is by far the fastest and most optimized version. This is due to bastions and subsequently Piglin trading. This allows for blind travel (because 1 block in the nether is equivalent to 8 the overworld, blind travel speeds up the travelling needed to get to the stronghold https://www.desmos.com/calculator/qplsfdkth8 as the distance to the stronghold is large (look at the first ring in the graph for the typical strongholds we use) , far faster collection of pearls+more so you can travel using them, the ability to speed up the bed getting process (for end fights as you may recall), and fire resistance for faster blaze fights. This allows the RSG WR to be <10 minutes
You may be wondering what RSG, SSG, and FSG are.
RSG
RSG is random seed glitchless, where the goal is to kill the ender dragon in a randomly generated world without glitches. It is the most played category.
SSG
SSG, or set seed glitchless uses a pre determined seed (found using a semi-automated seed-finding process). These are far faster and single seeds are scouted to perfection. The 1.16+ WR is 1:55 .
FSG
FSG, or filtered seed glitchless, uses a program to pre-find seeds that fit a certain criteria and are far better than your typical RSG seed, but they are played w/o previous knowledge of the seed. 4:47 by Dav1E is the incredible world record
This is just scratching the surface, https://discord.gg/minecraftspeedrunning this is the overall discord server, https://discord.gg/Y7mA7SEd35 and the 1.9-1.13 server. Anything else isn't much fun (overall server should get you everything you need).

I'm getting back some motivation to write some tabletop stuff :duck-dance: My campaign is resuming so I can test my stuff on my players and it gives me inspiration for new things.
I made a new account to post my Pathfinder 2e homebrew stuff here. I had a few people who liked them and commented and I was happy for the feedback, but I'd rather have a specific account for it and avoid crossing info since the substack might have IRL info. If you remember those posts, don't mention the previous account/name since I want to split the two :)
Yay, happy 4 u :meow-bounce:
I like to believe i have content for about 2-3 different campaigns, but i’m also stuck on a particular problem of running my own vtt server, which hasnt been going well.
Yea I've got a bunch of notes and ideas, but actually taking the time to write into something useful and polished used by others and not just for my groups takes more effort, so I've only managed to write on specific stuff that's been used in the campaign and that I can write a little story about, it's more fun that way.
I run a vtt server (foundry) on a raspberry pi, works very well for my needs. Then again some of my players have really shitty connection so i've only used the foundry server as a GM, I open the game on an "observer" profile and stream that screen on discord :p
Thats the exact setup i’m trying to run and it’s not working.
But I’m also trying to run a server on top so i can give my players a url to connect to.
That's a shame. I just followed the instructions for foundry on RPI (other people have the same setup and it was pretty straightforward for me). I also had to setup a special thing on my domain name provider so that the domain name I use would route to my dynamic IP, which was a bit of a hassle.
I’ve been following different instructions and all had the same problems, but often times they worked until i had the server reboot and some changes i made to some config file broke everything
You have some experience with RPI/linux? If not, there's a bunch of things I can think of that would break, like setting up the foundry server as a service (and have it auto-restart and start on server startup, etc..), or permissions, or a bunch of other stuff. If yes then I'm not sure what would be breaking stuff on reboot.
My experience has been pretty minimal before this. In the past i’ve noticed that the config file to foundry likes to get corrupted, so i delete it and it makes a new one. Later today I’ll just be following simplier directions from the foundryvtt wiki and try to run the game like that for a while
Would love to run a Pi server for Foundry as GM, but my internet is shit!
yeaaaa that's a big obstacle. I like having my Pi for local network stuff, and for foundry it's decent since I use it mostly for myself and stream the screen from an observer profile (the equivalent of using foundry on a big screen for an IRL session), but I think if you want it to be stable and fast enough connectivity-wise, you're gonna need to spend money on hosting solutions like the forge :(
I have an amazing internet connection, but that's honestly sheer luck.
