small update(s): haven't touched alcohol for about 24 hours despite some nasty cravings earlier though. I wasn't getting those the day prior. My body must be able to tell that I'm doing this willfully or something. The cravings were probably worse than cigarette cravings (to me anyway), but I spent far more time drinking than I had smoking by the numbers. Almost no shakes this morning for some reason despite drinking pretty heavily over the last few months. If I had continued down that path, I'd eventually end up broke.

As for the update on the cigarettes, today should have been one month off smoking award, I relapsed about two weeks ago at a concert, I've been clean for about two weeks now. Now that I know what caused that upset, I'll be more careful when I go out.

Anyway, one day down, who knows how many to go.

Awesome job comrade. I know how difficult it is. You're doing the right thing and you're doing great!

Is there anyway you can see a therapist at the same time? I found it really helps to talk to someone during all this change

My health insurance doesn't kick in until October sometime, so not really. I might try to go to an AA meeting soon even though I don't plan on doing a 12 step program long term. It's literally the only free substance abuse program around to my knowledge, so I'll take what I can get.

Totally get that. Several family members have done AA for that same reason. Hopefully the few sessions will be alright
