People also trying to own Luna by pointing out that her family used to be landlords and now have 500 square meters of farmland, and... good? That's called land reform.
a group of people who would most likely have deserved nothing.
Some real sins of the father stuff there. Maybe the parents were landlords, but even if they don't 'deserve' their own fair share (and they do, because everyone does), their daughter does.
It was her father's father, the same man who joined the NVA, later was tortured by the CPV for owning land, something Ho Chi Minh publicly apologized for in tears, was reinstated, and went right back to serving the revolution, dying in battle. He does not need any "forgiveness" or kudos from us, he did what we haven't and paid the ultimate price of his own accord so his people could be free
edit: look up the "rectification of errors" campaign for details on how mistakes had been made concerning land reform, and had to be massively overhauled in the late 50s
I can see that feeling, but I feel like it is almost something you can do out of spite: "Despite all your cruelty and disregard for other people, we will be better than you and demonstrate how decent humans act. Fuck you."

also less fodder for propaganda
Also it's generally just the right thing to do. Disempoewring and reforming people is morally just and more effective for long-term stability.
People from the USA are in no position to criticize who others parents are lol.
Don't throw stones in glass houses and all that
