My favourite part of January is people joining BJJ and MMA gyms

We had a few newbies at the gym this week and a few young arrogant footy players got a reality check.

Not so much to discourage them, but enough to realise that not all skills are transferable.

I wish I could haze the New Year’s resolutioners at my regular gym. So many people. All I can do is give disapproving looks.

My coach gives me carte blanche to fuck up newbies in a gentle, yet forceful manner.

I've got enough experience to do it a controlled manner.

Must admit that humbling dudes half my age makes me happy, but always make sure to point out to them that it's skills and experience.

They generally take it well too

This is the best take down ever. I'm laying on the couch. My daughter said something smart but jokingly so I grabbed her head/neck with both my socked feet and held her down on my Ottoman. I made her tap out. Is that actually dangerous because it was fucking funny at the time.

I should add she was kneeling beside me.

Yeah look.... take downs and subs by non trained people can be dangerous

Having said that, I've put several people to sleep and almost made them shit their pants for being stubborn.

Blood chokes are fine if you let go quickly. The loser comes to in a few seconds.

Air chokes can be dangerous if not properly supervised.

If you let go quickly it's fine. Keep an air choke on for too long and it gets dangerous potentially.
