  • I turned down the kitten that was up for adoption through a friend of a friend. As cute as it is, after doing some research, I think I'm better off adopting an adult cat. I was worried about single kitten syndrome and all of the work involved in caring for a high energy kitten. Plus I'm about to make a big career change and want to settle with that before I adopt. UGH responsible decision making.

  • This issue is something which makes me have second thoughts about adopting. But I think you can lessen the risk. If you're adopting a cat that is already trained to use a scratching post to scratch instead of furniture, and you provide that in your home, it's unlikely to happen.

"just finding out" cats can possibly scratch furniture is eyebrow raising.

  • What a lovely start to the week. One of my bosses messages on Teams group chat wishing me a happy birthday for yesterday. 20 minutes later, she sends me an email saying I won't be eligible for the bonus that all other staff will be getting for the team exceeding Q2 performance for the most bullshit reasons (the real reason being, they asked me to leave and don't care to pay me anything extra, even though I contributed like everyone else). Together with some wank about how she wanted to tell me in person but the time of year makes that difficult. Spineless individual.

Planning to resign within the next month and it cannot come quick enough. Thinking another sickie between now and then too.

  • A friend of a friend has a cat up for adoption, it's pretty cute. I'm being pushed into going to meet this cat so that I fall in love with it and adopt, which will probably happen if I go. This cat and stuff for the cat will be my birthday present from a group of friends.

I've wanted a pet for ages but never bit the bullet. Not sure what's holding me back, it's just never felt like the "right" time but I'm not sure if there is a right time. What to do? How high maintenance are cats? Seems like there's a lot of cat owners here so thought this is the place to ask!

  • Stand-up meetings, where everyone is in fact sitting down and it goes for almost an hour, a very crappy way to start the week.

Also this annoying brown-noser type person at my work took it upon themselves to run the meeting and they called me out on screen and asked me how my weekend was. I said it was fine and asked how theirs was, their response to my lack of information was "wow it's like talking to a teenager". Fuck off. If I don't want to regail all of the staff about what I did on the weekend like you do, then that's my decision to make.

  • Work has been busy from the get go this year. Isn't the first week back in January supposed to be cruisey?

I've got a meeting for a new contractor position on Thursday where the $$ earning potential is very good so fingers crossed that goes well. I've got another business on the hook that wants to sign me up as well. Between them, I think I could make a decent enough living (with the added flexibility) so I can escape my hellhole workplace ASAP. This is the place that asked me to voluntarily leave last year. Coming back to it in the new year has been rougher than expected. I'm not invested in this job at all anymore, and faking/forcing it while waiting for the perfect role is super exhausting. I need out.

  • Friend is proposing a group to beach day tomorrow. Which involves going to a kid and dog friendly beach, being a taxi, leaving early and being surrounded by chaos. I was planning a slow solo beach day with a book and big ocean waves as a way to round out the holidays. Maybe I can say I’m busy in the morning to avoid being a taxi, join them for a bit then they’ll probably leave late afternoon and I can have a fraction of the day I planned.
